The State Department for Culture, the Arts and Heritage was established in November 2023 through Executive Order No. 2 of 2023 under the Ministry of Gender, Culture, the Arts and Heritage. This establishment saw the expansion of the mandate of the State Department by inclusion of two additional functions which are Library Services and Research and Conservation of Music; and four more institutions, which are Permanent Presidential Music Commission, Kenya Copyright Board, Kenya National Library Services and Kenya Cultural Centre.
